HALTBAR was initially set up as label for product design, in 2001. The production and distribution of its fashion collections did not start until 2003. Between 2003 and 2007, the biannual unisex collections were realised in cooperation with fashion designer Kostas Murkudis. The design vocabulary of HALTBAR MURKUDIS is derived from German workwear, especially from the traditional clothes worn by carpenters. Since 2007, the fashion collection is exclusively marketed under the name of HALTBAR. The collections focus on bare essentials through reduction and on a kind of simplicity that puts them beyond the seasonal change of fashions. The idea behind it is to create artisan clothing of outstanding quality that is timeless yet contemporary and effortlessly integrates itself into its owners’ everyday lives.
To reach this goal, HALTBAR is drawing on existing structures and expert knowledge by partnering with a host of German family and craftwork businesses, often modifying their traditional products and establishing new contexts so as to put the updated versions back on the map of contemporary fashion. Avant-garde pieces and accessories round off the collections and make for the label’s trademark image.
