THE GIFT - A FILM BY CARL ERIK RINSCH
Part of the Parallel Lines project from Philips Cinema and Ridley Scott Associates (RSA), where five directors (Jake Scott, Greg Fay, Johnny Hardstaff, Carl Erik Rinsch, and Hi-Sim) each made a film using the same few lines of dialogue – five short films, five genres, five of RSA's hottest directors. The short film of Carl Rinsch has won the Grand Prix for Direction and Gold for Special Effects & Computer Graphics in the category Film Craft at the 57th Cannes Lions international advertising festival and which took place between June 20th–26th. The agency behind the Philips Parallel Lines campaign is DDB London.
»In April, Philips released their collaboration between five filmmakers from Ridley Scott Associates, called Parallel Lines. Scott's commercial division RSA was asked to create a series of short films in a genre of their choice, using »the same unifying theme.« RSA directors submitted forty-five treatments and Philips selected five it believed were most ground-breaking (listed above). Carl Erik Rinsch's futuristic action thriller short film »The Gift« was the leader of the pack, spawning a bidding war between several big Hollywood movie studios to turn the short film into a feature. (...) Parallel Lines also received a Grand Prix for Direction.« Peter Sciretta
