Mr Pip is an orphan being raised by his sister and her lazy slacker of a husband. At his sister’s house, Pip is a boy without expectations. Until one day, when Pip is told he has inherited a sum of money from an anonymous benefactor, a condition of which is that he must leave for London immediately. There he must buy some clothes and become a gentleman, Pip accepts the condition. In the spring/summer collection 2010, you will find inspiration from both sides of Mr Pips life. It’s up to you to choose and make a statement between »gentleman vs. slacker«...

SIXPACK FRANCE PRESENTS »A BIZARRE TRAVELOGUE INTO DRAMATIC ARCHITECTURE« BY NATIONAL FOREST

National Forest is a graphic studio formed by American artists Steven Harrington and Justin Krietemeyer. For the time-scanning SIXPACK France Autumn/Winter 09 line, they designed a very specific capsule-collection homage to Superstudio's Fundamental Acts series. Created from 1971 to 1973, the »Fundamental Acts« were a series of 5 experimental movies centred on the relations between architecture as a conscious formalization of the planet, and human life. The whole series was based on Gustav Freytag’s classical dramatic structure. Each video made a natural progression into the following five acts: THE EXPOSITION / THE RISING ACTION / THE CLIMAX (or turning point) / THE FALLING ACTION / THE CATASTROPHE

National Forest has adapted this dramatic pyramid structure to the clothing line. The line is composed of five pieces: Life-Youth-Ceremony-Love-Death. With this new collection, National Forest has showed us a new and darker side of their work: »A bizarre travelogue into dramatic architecture«

The Danish menswear designer, Christian Westphal, is invited to join the Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo in October 2009. It will be his first catwalk in Tokyo celebrating the status of this quirky, but commercial brand on the global market.

The key source of inspiration for the Spring Summer 2010 collection is the German childrens book, The Shockheaded Peter. In the stories of Heinrich Hoffman, we are drawn into the world of bogeymen, monsters and angry adults, putting paid to the cliché of comfort: ›the greatest fear is fear itself.‹ The collection’s set evokes a pop-up picture book with lots of opening doors and windows, secret entrances and levels. A child's world, where the imagination is given cues to do its worst and subsequently spills over into nightmare. The Shockheaded Peter Project Collection is always imagining and with our own little fears of things that go bump in the night.

The Summer 2010 collection offers a dingy vista of forbidding doors and windows, of two-dimensional garments and frayed curtains, before which parade a gallery of razor-cut jackets, the Scissorman in sleek cotton, a tip-toeing, grimacing silhouette who creeps up to take revenge with a »snip, snip.«

Christian Westphal already has an impressive history in the fashion industry having graduated from La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris and working under both John Galliano and Emanuel Ungaro in Paris for several years.

Maria Francesca Pepe Autumn/Winter 2009/10 »Les C« draws inspiration from the 19th century fashionable French prostitutes. Adopting avant-garde proportions, the decorative aspects of the collection also explore a more feminine aesthetic.

In addition to the lavish curls of Les Cocottes, the collection touches ranges from art-deco to the garconne of 1920’s and the sharpness of early seventies lines. The silhouette has wide and straight masculine shoulders that emphasise the geometry of the lines whilst an unexpected softness of big falling folds mirroring each other in the play of inversion.

The collection is created with the archetypal MariaFrancescaPepe customer in mind. Directional and experimental in their appearance, the MFP pieces appeal to the avant-garde admirer who looks for a non-conventional luxury with a tailoring fit Industry icons such as Roisin Murphy, Beth Ditto, Lulu Kennedy, Agyness Deyn and Alice Dellal are all fine examples of loyal MFPepe supporters.

»In traditional Maori art the most dominant, mythical motif is the ›avianised man‹ or ›bird-woman‹. The most important visual art forms are plaiting, relief carving and tattoo. My idea in this collection was to combine (and confront) this with classic, European clothing - in order to express the contrasts and borders between what we see as primitive/civilianized, exotic/classic and barbaric/elegant. My idea was not to create bird suits or folk costumes and I decided not to use feathers in the garments and to ›translate‹ the traditional materials of the Maori.
