© by NRW-Forum DüsseldorfIn recent years, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf has hosted both an opulent Vivienne Westwood retrospective and a sparse, minimalist Alexander McQueen catwalk exhibition. Now it is turning its attention to the most spectacular, theatrical fashion shows held by the world’s top designers in recent years. Visitors to the exhibition will themselves become catwalk models.
The Catwalks exhibition will recreate the most breath-taking top designer shows of recent years: spectacular Dior shows, Galliano-style circus performances, dramatic productions of the kind put on by Alexander McQueen, conceptional performances like those by Hussein Chalayan, catwalks in the form of tables set for spectacular dinners such as the ones used by Dries van Noten.
Visitors will themselves become catwalk models. By walking along the catwalk, they will become part of a number of major fashion shows, which will be brought to life and transformed into 3D spectacles using video projections and multimedia installations. More catwalks will be shown in a cinema of the catwalks. Balenciaga / Balmain / Roberto Cavalli / Hussein Chalayan / Chanel / Comme des Garçons / Christian Dior / Dolce & Gabbana / Gianfranco Ferré / John Galliano / Jean-Paul Gaultier / Givenchy / Marc Jacobs / Lacoste / Lanvin / Martin Margiela / Alexander McQueen / Issey Miyake / Thierry Mugler / Olivier Theyskens / Rick Owens / Prada / Rodarte / Sonia Rykiel / Yves Saint Laurent / Valentino / Giambattista Valli / Dries Van Noten / Viktor & Rolf / Versace / Diane von Fürstenberg / Vivienne Westwood / Wunderkind / Yohji Yamamoto are the illustrious names from the world of fashion that will feature in this exhibition.

MAKING OF LOUIS VUITTON AUTUMN/WINTER 2009/10 AD CAMPAIGN FEAT. MADONNA
Following the success of Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2009 fashion campaign starring Madonna and photographed by Steven Meisel, Artistic Director Marc Jacobs was keen to repeat the experience for Autumn/Winter 2009/10, but equally determined to produce something entirely different.
Shot in a New York studio, the Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 campaign thus features Madonna in a series of sophisticated portraits reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood. Inspired by the photographs of Man Ray, who perfected the technique of solarisation, and nodding to the lush colours and sumptuous draperies of the paintings of Tamara de Lempicka, the images have a softer, more intimate quality than the previous campaign, while losing nothing of its power to arrest. In the seven visuals, Madonna models key pieces from Marc Jacobs' A/W 2009/10 ready-to-wear collection for Louis Vuitton, whose ruffled silks, extravagant accessories and sequinned Monogram bags strike an out-and-out glamorous note, which is balanced by the sweetly ironic presence of the bunny ears that were such a hit on the catwalk.
»After the fun we had with the Spring/Summer 2009 campaign, and the amazing reaction to it, all of us Madonna, Steven and myself were eager to get back together for A/W 2009/10,« comments Marc Jacobs. »While the two campaigns look very different, there is also a unity about them, so it now feels like we have completed both parts of the story.«

After six succesful years in New York in the nineties, he relocated to his hometown Stockholm in 2001. During his New York career, John was known for a highly distinctive and personal style of photography, full of energy and with interesting, often radical angles, largely influenced by punk music and other subcultural phenomena. In later years, his style has become more mature, subtle and sophisticated, more close and intimate with his models, oriented to beauty as well as fashion.

Over 2,400 graffiti tags were photographed from April 24 to April 28, 2009, from each of Paris’s 20 districts. All photographs were archived, tagged and sorted by letter. The ten most commonly used letters by Paris graffiti writers were identified for further study (A,E,I,K,N,O,R,S,T and U). From each letter grouping, eighteen tags were isolated to represent the diversity and range of that specific character. These sets are not intended to display the »best« graffiti tags in Paris, but rather aim to highlight the diversity of forms ranging from upper case to lowercase, simple to complex and legible to cryptic.
