THE BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK OF SHINICHI MARUYAMA

© by Shinichi Maruyama

Shinichi Maruyama was born in 1968 in Nagano, Japan. Surrounded by beautiful mountains. In High School he became immersed in mountain climbing, and wanting to preserve the stunning landscapes began taking photographs. After graduating in 1991, majoring in film/photography at Chiba University, Maruyama began taking photos for his personal project »Into the Spiti Valley«, a documentary work about Tibetan culture in India, the exhibition later opened in 2001 with the publication of two books »Into The Spiti Valley« and »Spiti«. He moved to New York in 2003 where he created his latest two series »Nihonga« and »KUSHO« (shown above).

Take a look at his website for other amazing projects like »KUSHO DROP« and the »KUSHO« movie:

THE BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK OF MARIO HUGO

© by Mario Hugo

»Mario Hugo composes typographic and illustrative works with an eye fixed on progressive experimentation. His hand-rendered font for The Decemberists' The Hazards of Love album (a collaboration with illustrator Carson Ellis) is just one example of his shape-shifting approach to design. But so too are his bold geometric letter forms for Beck's Modern Guilt album sleeve, pieces that look more like woodcarved sculpture than design coaxed from a computer. In addition to his own commercial work, Hugo also runs the artist management firm, Hugo & Marie. Matthew Newton from Computerlove recently had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Hugo.« Here's how the conversation played out: Interview at Computerlove

JUN TAKAHASHI’S UNDERCOVER AUTUMN/WINTER 2009 COLLECTION

© by Undercover

I would wear almost every item of this amazing collection! I’m absolutely in love with the shapes, colours and details.

INTERIM CAMP BY FIELD

Poor visibility; weather again unsettled today. Surreal rocks and riven lowlands, valleys fog-shrouded. Frightening depths, and emptiness. Rarity of air is noticeable. What are you looking for in this hostile stretch?

A meditation about the pursuit of an idea; about obstacles, struggle and failure along the way.

The constant transformation of the landscape shapes and their surfaces is based on generated motion sequences of drifting and constantly transforming surface structures, which were created with a custom generative software tool. Composed in Maya. Arran Poole joined field in their conclave for 10 days and allowed for the soundtrack to evolve alongside the visual ideas.

The line is full-ranged and carries both men’s and women’s garments.

The Local Firm’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection is based on the post-apparatchik man and the glamorous woman of the 90’s.

»CROSSING« DIRECTED BY TIM RICHARDSON / JEWELLERY BY JORDAN ASKILL

New York-based photographer and director Tim Richardson takes Jordan Askill's jewellery collection on a symbolic journey in this film and stills.

»Jordan Askill has been a friend and creative collaborator for several years. His work has always seemed somewhat autobiographical while maintaining a preoccupation with the fragility and innocence of youth. The ›Crossing‹ project is my interpretation of our conversations regarding the personal and sometimes intimate mythology Jordan has created as the basis for his collection. Both the photography and film represent a symbolic journey - a vision of the fragility of adolescence in the eternal presence of nature. ›Youth‹ becomes a mythic figure, floating above the ›eternity‹ of the oceans massive horizon - crossing the divide between the real and the imaginary.« Tim Richardson

COMPLEXGEOMETRIES AUTUMN/WINTER 2009/10 ...BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL

COMPLEX GEOMETRIES aw09 | TRAILER from JASON LAST on Vimeo.

The COMPLEXGEOMETRIES Autumn/Winter 2009 collection entitled »...between good and evil« examines the conflict and co-existence of moral ideals. Informed by the grey area that exists between right and wrong, the collection explores a diversity of references including vigilantes, religious icons, toreadors, and ghostly apparitions. In bold black, white and grey with hazy hues of pink and purple, pieces are made without a clear front or back, wearable either way. Large collars and capes can be used to create modesty or conceal shame. Durable and fragile fabrics interplay in deliberate contrast.

Instead of presenting a singular vision of the season's aesthetic and in an attempt to revalue the co-operative nature of creative production, COMPLEXGEOMETRIES Autumn/Winter 2009 collection is presented in short videos from 5 different artists: Jason Last, Renata Morales, Tracy Maurice, Stacy Lundeen, Arianna. The collaborators were given no limitations with the work they could produce. A preview of the videos can be viewed above. (The videos will be screened this friday March 20 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm (EDT) at UNIT, 1198 Queen St West. Toronto)

ADIDAS SLVR & Y-3 SPRING/SUMMER 2009 CAMPAIGN MOVIES

adidas SLVR Spring / Summer 2009 from adidas Fashion Group on Vimeo.

The adidas SLVR label’s key message is »Simply Perfect«. The range shows a timeless and considered design; one that conveys a minimalist character, yet is fresh and progressive. The collection includes apparel, footwear and accessories for both men & women.

The adidas SLVR film was shot by renowned photographer Mark Segal and art directed by Pietsch Lim. The film brings the new concept to life through strong yet effortless black and white visuals and a sound track by Say Hi to Your Mom.

adidas Y-3 Spring / Summer 2009 from adidas Fashion Group on Vimeo.

Y-3’s campaign for Spring/Summer 2009 disregards convention in favor of a fresh perspective on the world. It is a look at a synthetic reality, an exploration of people’s lives seen as a glimpse through the lens of omnipresent surveillance cameras. The accompanying Y-3 movie captures a mood of undiluted elegance, vibrancy and sophistication - the mood of Y-3. Filmed by Darren Lew with the creative direction of Doug Lloyd, it reveals the verve of the Y-3 lifestyle where high performance meets high fashion.

COÛTE QUE COÛTE IN BERLIN / PART #02 / BRILLIANT APARTMENTS

© by COÛTE QUE COÛTE

You want to stay in Berlin for a few days? You don’t know where to sleep? Here is the answer:
BRILLIANT APARTMENTS Berlin

First of all – this is not a commercial break. It’s my personal recommendation for the greatest place for a stay in Germany’s capital city!

Last week I visited Berlin with two friends for four days and three nights and we found the best alternative to a classic hotel or a hostel. The name BRILLIANT APARTMENTS stands for a house in Prenzlauer Berg – with 7 lovely and modern furnished apartments. You can choose between 38qm and 86qm (with or without balcony) and the price-performance ratio is great!

On the pictures above you see the apartment DIAMANT which has 68qm and was the best thing for us to choose. It has a large living room with an integrated kitchen, a big sleeping room, a nice bathroom and a balcony – which is absolutely perfect for smokers... ;)

It was love at first sight and we will definitely come back!

CHANEL SEGWAY DELUXE

© by CHANEL

Apparently Chanel makes a Segway. As in the preferred mode of transportation of mall security guards. Chanel's comes complete with the classic 2.55 handbag and matching black quilted-leather mud flaps and handlebars. Top speed is twelve miles per hour. It's available by special order and the price hasn't been listed, but as a reference point, know that the Chanel bicycle is $12K. But just imagine how amazing you'd look riding to work on it! If that's not worth many thousands of dollars... ;)
